One of the most common questions we get from clients is, “Why don’t I see the changes you made to my website?” Or, “Why does my site still look the same even after a big update?”
The answer almost always comes down to your web browser storing a cached version of your site. But don’t worry—it’s an easy fix! Let’s break it down in simple terms.
What’s a Web Browser?
Your web browser is what you use to surf the internet—Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, or Opera. Each browser has a feature called cache, which helps pages load faster.
What is Cache?
Cache is like a short-term memory for your browser. When you visit a website, your browser saves parts of it—like images and code—so that the next time you visit , it loads faster instead of downloading everything again.
That’s great for speed, but it can cause problems when a website is updated. Instead of showing the new version, your browser might still display the older, stored version. That’s why you might not see the changes we’ve made!
How to Fix It: Clearing Your Cache
Clearing your cache forces your browser to load the latest version of a website. Here’s how to do it for major browsers:
Google Chrome
- Click the three dots in the top right corner.
- Hover over More Tools and select Clear browsing data.
- Set the Time range to “All time.”
- Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
Mozilla Firefox
- Click the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.
- Select Settings and go to Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data…
- Ensure Cached Web Content is checked and click Clear.
Safari
- Click Safari in the top left corner, then Preferences.
- Go to the Advanced tab and enable Show Develop menu in menu bar.
- In the Develop menu, select Empty Caches.
Microsoft Edge
- Click the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select Settings, then go to Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
- Select Cached images and files and click Clear.
Opera
- Click the Easy Setup button in the top right corner.
- Scroll down and click Clear browsing data…
- Select the time range and the types of data to delete.
- Click Clear data.
Other Quick Fixes
If clearing your cache doesn’t seem to work, try these:
✅ Use a different device – If your site looks fine on your phone but not on your computer, it’s likely a cache issue.
✅ Try Incognito/Private Mode – This mode doesn’t use stored cache, so if the site looks right there, clearing your cache should fix the issue.
✅ Restart your browser – Sometimes, simply closing and reopening your browser helps.
